School History & Mission
On May 15, 1953 Bishop George Rehring of the Diocese of Toledo established Blessed Pius X Parish (Pope Pius X had not yet been canonized a saint). Father William A. Stahl, O.S.F.S. was named the first pastor and began a long history of Oblates of St. Francis de Sales’ association with the parish. At the same time, Christ the King was also established as a parish with Fr. Basil Goes as pastor.
On June 1, 1953, ground was broken for a combined church and school on a ten-acre plot of land extending south from Carskaddon. The cornerstone was laid on August 16, by Fr. William Buckley, then Provincial Superior of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, assisted by Fr. Stahl and Fr. Toy.
School opened September 30, 1953, with 209 students in the first six grades. Only the north wing was completed at that time. At midnight on Christmas Eve 1953, the first Mass was held in the new church.
The following spring, on May 28, 1954, the parish was renamed St. Pius X in recognition of the canonization of Blessed Pius X. The south wing of the school was completed in the fall of 1956; the school population increased to 344 students.
In July of 2021, St. Pius X Parish and Gesu Parish were twinned. The current pastor for both of these parishes is Fr. Marty Lukas OSFS. Starting in August of 2022, the newly ordained Fr. Craig Irwin OSFS will become the Parochial Vicar for both parishes.
At present St. Pius X membership consists of about 850 households with a total school population, Pre-School through Grade 8, of 160. St. Pius strives to be a welcoming, friendly community with a vibrant spiritual life and an equally vibrant sense of community and service to others. We are blessed with a truly dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to our School Mission and strive each and every day to provide a quality Catholic education for each child.
In the words of Henry David Thoreau, “Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.” Working together, following in the footsteps of Christ, we the community of St. Pius X, parents, students and staff, will make great things happen!
We, at St. Pius X School, are a believing community.
We believe in God.
We believe in the goodness of all that God has created.
We believe in our students.
We believe that joining with their families we can
provide our students with the very best education.
We believe that a full education includes the spiritual, the intellectual,
the emotional and the physical development of each student.
We believe that every student can grow and mature and confidently become a young adult.
We believe in challenging our students, in listening to them,
in correcting their errors and praising their achievements.
We believe in working together.
In simple yet powerful words,
we believe in You.
